Schools using SchoolSitePro (or school districts using DistrictSitePro) have 2 websites:
- School's public website (Such as www.school-name.org)
- Administration site (Password protected site to access SchoolSitePro)
Users (teachers and staff members) use the tools in the administration site to update the content in the public website. The administration site is password protected, and each user has his own username and password. The access privileges of users are set by the technology director or school administrators. For instance, the access of a typical teacher account is limited to this teacher's own webpage, his or her class pages, their subsections, etc. On the other hand, a staff member who works in the main office is allowed to update general sections in the website, such as "news and announcements", "school calendar", and "online bulletin board", because they are usually the staff members who have the information for these sections. (These rules can be adjusted to each school's specific needs and priorities using the user management tools in SchoolSitePro.)
Every application in SchoolSitePro is designed for a certain section in school websites, and each application becomes accessible to the user only if this user is allowed to update this section.
The applications in SchoolSitePro are run through web-based forms that are already known to Internet users. For instance, to add a new event to the calendar of the school, the user chooses "Add new event" from the menu, and fills out a form with this event's information. The task consists of entering information such as date of the event, time, location, etc. The users can even copy and paste information from other programs such as Microsoft Word or Excel, instead of entering it. Once the user clicks on the "Save" button, the information is published on the school's public website. It's that easy and quick. The school's official public website will be updated in real-time, and all the user needs is a computer and an Internet browser.
Internet users are already familiar with forms in websites. They fill out forms on the Internet for online shopping, to contact organizations, and even for email (web-based email systems such as Hotmail, Yahoo Mail, etc.). SchoolSitePro works exactly the same way, the way most teachers are already familiar with.
SchoolSitePro doesn't require software installation on each teacher's computer. The system is accessible from any computer that is connected to the Internet, and is maintained by our team. As a result, as long as the teachers and staff members have their usernames and passwords, they can make the necessary updates from any location, and at any time.
